When Dylan asked me to write up a little intro about myself, I immediately started freaking out. My mind cut to the various cover letters I’ve been writing for the past year and how even though I am supposed to be good at writing about myself (hello, I’m a writer!), I have never gotten the hang of selling myself. Call it modesty or call it insecurity, I just don’t feel like I look good on paper. But I stopped. I told myself to shut up and more importantly, hey! you are pretty wonderful, obviously!
So, hi. I’m Stacey. I live In Long Beach, California and although Long Beach is pretty much exactly what Snoop Dogg and Tupac were rapping about all those years ago, it is also a very cool, laid back town and the only place that has ever felt like home. I consider it the San Francisco of Southern California and the honestly, the only livable place in the bottom half of the state.
I live with my boyfriend Brett and our tiny-six-pound dog Rocky. I pay the bills by tutoring and I spend my free time writing, crafting, dreaming, and sleeping. I’m currently trying to find a teaching position as an English professor, but if the economy has told me anything, it’s that there are no jobs in education. I graduated with my MFA in creative writing with a focus on fiction last July from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and I also have a Bachelor’s in English Literature from California State University, Fullerton. I’m also a contributor on You Are Remarkable, which I’m sure you all know about from the lovely Kelly Cashman. If you’re interested in some of my posts, you can find them here.
I live for writing. I honestly don’t know what I would do without it. About five years ago when I was struggling and feeling completely lost, a light came on when I realized that writing was the only thing that had ever made any sense to me. So I changed majors, transferred to a better school, and read and wrote all that I could muster. I love writing and I love the way it makes me feel. There is nothing more therapeutic than getting it all out and slamming my fingers down on the keyboard. I might not have an outstanding and impressive literary career yet, but as long as I keep writing, I’ll be perfectly content. I’m terribly excited to be joining the Tell Me Something team and to help create more good stuff for us all to enjoy. See you guys soon! -SR
