Message: What do I do with my life? I'm 28 and single and working as a temp in Boston. Is this it?
Do you WANT this to be it? Because it isn’t. Go do something crazy! Go teach in Thailand (seriously my sister just did this and told me there were a lot of “older” people who weren’t certified teachers, just people sick of their lives in America and needed a change). Start a business. Go back to school. This is never it. I’m 27, currently learning how to play guitar, planning on going back to school, learning how to sew, and learning how to make panna cotta. I also want to eventually have babies, and then my life will kind of start over again.
Also, people live to be so old now! My grandparents are in their 90’s and my grandma calls me to ask what channel the Puppy Bowl is on. You’re going to be around for a really long time. And don’t worry about being single. I’m pretty sure women sexually peak in their 30’s, so you have some time before you’re too old to find a real foxy lady, or man.
But for real, you can do anything. Not saying because this is America, but this IS America. I would start with a trip. Go somewhere solo, get your think on. I suggest somewhere you can sit and drink coffee or wine and eat good food while looking at beautiful scenery and beautiful people and bring a notebook and brainstorm and then just do what you want. But don’t give up. Especially if you’re a white middle-class male in America. Fortunately for you, the world, or at least the country, is your oyster. -T
REWIND to this...
Ted Leo and The Pharmacists - "La Costa Brava": Man, Ted Leo is really just my favorite. So much of his music speaks to me. This song is beautiful. It’s about taking time to just get away and enjoy. Ted mentions a café on La Costa Brava, in Spain, and I’m immediately transported to my favorite country. Listen to this jam and plan a trip. Listen to this jam and plan your life! Or just go with the flow. Either way, listen to Ted!
